Frequently asked psychotherapy questions

You may have additional questions which I would be very happy to answer during the first session or you can contact me.

There is no universally agreed definition for the term talking therapies. In broad terms counselling is considered to be shorter term and more focused on a particular life issue. Psychotherapy is often viewed as longer term work to address more fundamental, deep seated issues. They often overlap in practice.

Abortion, abuse, addiction, anger, anxieties, bereavement and loss, childhood issues, couples counselling, depression, divorce, domestic violence, eating disorders, feelings of grief, low self confidence or low self esteem, miscarriage, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), relationship issues, sexual problems, dealing with stress, work related issues/loss of employment.

Everyone is an individual with their own unique experiences, and therefore the above is not an exhaustive list.

My usual charge is £60 per session for individuals, and £80 per session for couples. However, I do reserve a few lower priced spaces for clients in particular circumstances. I review my charges on the 1st October each year, but if you are an existing client the cost to you will not rise.

Each session lasts 50 minutes. Longer sessions are by prior agreement and will be charged on a pro rata basis.

This is something that we would discuss in the first session and may be dependant on the nature of your concern and your commitments. I can work flexibly in both a time-limited or an open-ended way. Ultimately the decision is entirely yours.

I work during normal office hours, but also offer some early morning and evening appointment times. Skype or telephone appointments are available for those whose commitments may preclude regular face-to-face sessions. If under any circumstances I have to cancel your session, I will give as much notice as possible, and do my utmost to reschedule the session. If the session cannot be rescheduled to your convenience, there will be no charge. Payment is due for any scheduled session missed by the client for any reason.

I normally present a bill at the end of the month, and expect payment by cheque at the next session, or via an online bank transfer.

In my dedicated consulting room, which provides a safe and comfortable environment. After the initial consultation, for some clients I also offer therapy sessions over the phone or using Skype voice calls.
